SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATED CLAIMS, PAYMENTS AND CONTROL) (AMENDMENT) (NO. 4) (SHARING OF INFORMATION) REGULATIONS 2015

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

Section 266 of the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 provides that various educational bodies and institutions may share information with the Minister for Education and Skills and with the Higher Education Authority for the purposes of recording a person's educational or training history or monitoring his or her educational or training progress in order to ascertain how best he or she may be assisted in availing of educational or training opportunities or in developing his or her full educational potential.

The purpose of these Regulations is to extend the types of information that can be shared in order to further assist the Minister for Education and Skills to adequately monitor the progress of students through the education system. The additional information to be shared includes information relating to the special educational needs of students and whether the student is repeating a year.
