Funeral Grant (under the Occupational Injuries Benefit scheme)

If someone dies at work, a special Funeral Grant is available under the Occupational Injuries Benefit scheme.


To be eligible for this grant, the death must have resulted from:

  • An accident at work,
  • An accident while travelling directly to or from work
  • An occupational disease.

The person must have paid a minimum of one week's PRSI.

This special funeral grant is paid under the Occupational Injuries Benefits scheme instead of the Widowed Person's Bereavement Grant.


Special Funeral Grant: €850.

How to apply

To apply download and complete claim form OB 61 (pdf).

To apply you need:

  • The original Death Certificate/interim Death Certificate
  • A copy of the death notice
  • A note of the funeral expenses.
